At Calvary Chapel High School, we are excited to introduce our special Computer Science Track, expertly directed by Dr. Fadi Batarseh. Our program offers a rigorous academic pathway designed to prepare high school students into tomorrow's innovators in the fields of Computer Science and Engineering. For High School students who are planning to major in Computer Science or Engineering, this track provides a significant advantage, offering in-depth knowledge and early exposure to college-level placement and environment. 

Courses in this track are also beneficial for all majors. In the modern digital landscape, computational skills are essential across all disciplines. The Computer Science Track equips students with these crucial abilities, ensuring they are prepared to succeed in various fields, whether manipulating data, developing software, or applying algorithmic thinking.

  • Director of the Program: Dr. Fadi Batarseh, Ph.D., as an educator and a passionate advocate for technology and innovation. Dr. Batarseh brings a wealth of knowledge, academic and research experience to our program, where he also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Cal Poly Pomona, where he teaches and specializes in Data Science & Analytics. 
  • AP Preparation: Courses aligned with AP standards to facilitate and prepare students for AP Computer Science exams (AP CS Principles and AP CS A). 
  • Hands-On Experience: Engage in practical learning with leading edge programming languages and tools with an emphasis on real-world problem-solving.

The Computer Science Track at Calvary Chapel High School offers a structured and comprehensive approach to learning. Our curriculum progresses from foundational knowledge to advanced programming skills, preparing students for both academic and professional success in computer science. 

Course Offerings: 

2024 Summer Coding Bootcamp in Data Science & AI 

  • Duration: 6 weeks, starting on June 10th, 2024 
  • Description: This immersive boot camp is designed to introduce high school students to the exciting world of data science and artificial intelligence. Through hands-on projects and real-world applications, students will learn the fundamentals of data analysis, machine learning algorithms, and AI concepts. The boot camp also includes workshops on Python programming and its applications in solving complex data problems. 

 

Introduction to Computer Science 

  • Description: This introductory course focuses on the foundational aspects of computer science and algorithms. Students will learn how computers work, the efficiency of simple algorithms, and basic problem-solving methods. Topics also include networking, databases, security, and the social impact of computing, with an introduction to Python as an object-oriented programming language. 
  • Prerequisite: High School Algebra 

Python Programming 

  • Description: This course deepens understanding of programming basics, including binary computation, problem-solving methods, and algorithm development. Students will learn procedural and data abstractions, program design, debugging, testing, and documentation. It covers data types, control structures, functions, parameter passing, library functions, arrays, inheritance, and object-oriented design using Python. 
  • Prerequisite: Introduction to Computer Science 

Object Oriented Programming using Java 

  • Description: Designed to familiarize students with the Java programming language and object-oriented programming principles. This course covers data types and operators, flow control statements, classes, objects, methods, inheritance, packages, interfaces, exception handling, and input/output operations. 
  • Prerequisite: Introduction to Computer Science
