Coach Sharyn Peters
Sharyn Peters 'Coach Byrd' has been running all her life. She was a track athlete in Junior High, High School and College. She was a CIF athlete in both Hurdles and Volleyball. In 2003 to celebrate her 10 year wedding anniversary with her hubby, Jim, they trained for a Marathon. They crossed the race finish line together (6-4-2004) and continue their marriage marathon to this day. As a Full-Time Parent-Professional, she coaches to share with others her passion of running. She started coaching in 2006 after playing women's full-contact football and has always felt most comfortable with kids, running and coaching.
When injured or side-lined, sharing the sport with others becomes a more meaningful journey once able to return. "I've always felt that running sprints or distance was akin to our Spiritual Life of being a follower of Christ Jesus. There will be good days and bad days, but the goal is to finish and finish strong. I reach toward the goal of Christ, I lay aside all my troubles when running and get such a sense of intimacy with my Lord and Savior. I use running as a time of worship and just take in the simplicity of what our Heavenly Creator has made for us." I pray I can use my talents and gifts all to God's Glory. James 1:2-4 is my favorite verse - "Consider it pure Joy, my brothren, whenever you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." I pray that I share not only my faith with the young student-athletes, but am able to leave them better than when I found them. I'd like them to get stronger in their faith, stronger as a student and stronger as an athlete. Giving back to the students is something I'm looking forward to; I want them to enjoy running for many years to come, long after they've graduated from High School.
Her coaching certificates are: local from A Snail's Pace Running Academy; national from Road Runners Club of America and national from Dr. Sears Wellness Institute. She was raised in the church, attending AWANA, teaching Sunday School for many years, still teaching on Sundays, a leader/director in AWANA and has been married to Jim since 1994. The Lord Jesus grabbed her heart at a young age, but a car accident at age 13 taught her how to rely upon Jesus and Him alone when wearing a seat belt would have killed her on a youth group outing to Yosemite for Scholarship Camp.
